ORLANDO, Fla. — The brightest young minds in Central Florida will compete for cash prizes and a scholarship this Saturday.

Local middle and high school students will compete in the Lockheed Martin Science Challenge at the Orlando Science Center.

This competition tests students at an intermediate level above county science fairs and encourages students to get involved in science.

Those who won first place in their county’s science fair can participate.

Sixth-grade students to twelfth-grade students from Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia Counties are invited.

Over 100 projects will be on display.

The science categories include chemistry, computer science, earth and space, engineering, environmental science, mathematics and physics.

The science center and Lockheed Martin organize the yearly tournament to prepare students for state science fairs.

Judges will review the projects from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and guests can see the projects until the awards ceremony at 2 p.m.
