OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — An Osceola County school board member is in trouble with the state elections commission for a third time.
The commission said Osceola County school board member Jay Wheeler used campaign money to fill up his gas tank, purchase an iPhone upgrade and take a trip to Washington, D.C.
Wheeler is facing more than two dozen charges, according to a document.

9 Investigates obtained a copy of an order charging Wheeler with 31 counts of breaking state election law.
Former school board member Tom Long filed the complaint against Wheeler.
Fourteen of the 31 charges said Wheeler used campaign money for multiple personal expenses, including gas for his personal vehicle, magazine subscriptions, an iPhone upgrade that cost $800 and a trip to Washington, D.C. worth about $1,000.
It’s not the first time Wheeler has been in trouble with the commission.
In 2011, the commission fined Wheeler $17,000 after it found he used campaign money to pay for gas and traveler’s insurance.
In 2015, the commission fined Wheeler $1,500 after it found he used campaign money to pay for his son’s bar mitzvah.
It’s not clear why the new document mentions the bar mitzvah since the commission fined Wheeler in that case.
