COVID-19 vaccine distribution site run by FEMA opens in Osceola County

Minority COVID-19 vaccines

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A new FEMA COVID-19 vaccination site opened in Osceola County on Wednesday to try to target vaccinating minority communities.

The site at St. Cloud Civic Center can provide up to 500 doses a day to area residents.

Appointments are not necessary, but officials said individuals still need to be in one of the qualified groups identified by the governor’s executive order to receive the vaccine, which includes people age 50 and older who are K-12 school employees, law enforcement officers or firefighters.

The St. Cloud site, which is considered a “spoke site” made possible through FEMA, will be open through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Next week, a similar spoke site will open at the Mary Jane Arrington Gym and Aquatic Center. That site will be open March 10-13, also from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

“I’m glad that Osceola was selected to serve as a FEMA Spoke location for two months to help better increase our outreach to minority areas in the county,” said Osceola Commission Chairman Brandon Arrington in a statement.
