STUART, Fla. — A community event on Sept. 12 aims to build a 400-foot Cuban sandwich at L. Cpl. Justin Wilson Memorial Park in Palm City is attempting to set a new world record.
The project, titled “Bite Into History: The Longest Cuban Sandwich Ever Made,” would surpass the current record of 365 feet set in Tampa in 2024.
The event is co-hosted by Old Havana Cafe in Stuart and House of Hope, a local nonprofit organization. Proceeds from registrations, sponsorships, donations, and sandwich sales will support House of Hope’s community programs, which provide access to healthy food, nutrition education, financial assistance, and workforce development.
The event opens to the public at 11 am, with sandwich construction starting at noon. Planned on-site activities include face painting, salsa dancing, dominoes, nonprofit booths with children’s activities, and refreshments.
Teams will assemble the sandwich using traditional ingredients, including Cuban bread, meat, pickles, and mustard. Sections of the sandwich will be available for purchase after official judging takes place.
House of Hope Chief Executive Officer Rob Ranieri said the event serves as an engaging initiative to highlight the organization’s mission. “This is a really bold way to build awareness of our work in empowering our community to overcome hunger and hardship,” Ranieri said. “It’s also going to be great fun. Our teams are intent on breaking the current world record for the longest Cuban sandwich, and I believe we’re going to do it.”
Chef Chuchi Rivero, owner of Old Havana Cafe, highlighted the community partnership behind the event. “We love food, we love people, and we love the work of House of Hope,” Rivero said. “This is a perfect project to bring the community together for a great cause. It’s going to be truly historic.”
