ROCKLEDGE, Fla. — A 37-year-old man was fatally struck early Monday in a hit-and-run crash, the Rockledge Police Department said.

Christopher Holton was struck at about 3 a.m. while riding a bicycle home after work along Barnes Boulevard between Murrell Road and U.S. 1, police said.

The driver, Dylan Pasik, struck Holton from behind and then fled the crash scene, police said.

Officers said they were able to track down Pasik to a nearby neighborhood.

“The vehicle was not present at the time of our arrival. Officers were on scene several minutes later,” said Chief Joseph Lasata. “We received a report of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. 1.”

Witnesses told Channel 9 that they believe they spotted Pasik before he allegedly fled the crash scene. They said he appeared to be driving recklessly before the crash.

“As I got closer, I noticed he was on the wrong side of the road,” witness Angelina Dana said. “It was scary. I couldn’t believe he didn’t know he was on the wrong side of the road with a blown-out tire. We tried hard to stop him.”

Holton died at the crash scene, police said.

Pasik has been cooperative with the investigation.

Investigators said charges are pending against Pasik.

“We did what we had to do once we identified him as being potentially involved in the incident,” said Lasata.

The crash continues to be investigated.

No other information was available.
