Police charge suspect with murder of missing UF student

Pedro A. Bravo

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A teen already facing charges in the case of a missing fellow University of Florida student has now been charged with his murder, according to Gainsville police.

Gainesville police reported Friday evening that they've charged 18-year-old Pedro Bravo with the murder of 18-year-old Christian Aguilar. Bravo had previously been arrested Monday on a third-degree felony charge of depriving a victim of medical treatment.

Police say Aguilar was last seen Sept. 20 at a Gainesville Best Buy store with Bravo. Police believe the two may have been fighting over a girl.

Bravo admitted he and Aguilar got into a fight and he left Aguilar in a wooded area.

Bravo had purchased duct tape and shovel several days before Aguilar went missing, but police say they haven't yet recovered the items.

Aguilar's body is still missing. Authorities have been searching for more than a week with no results.

Jail records didn't list an attorney for Bravo.

Police told the Gainesville Sun that Bravo has given them three versions of what happened. In one version, they just talked. In another, he hit Aguilar and then left. The other version has Bravo beating Aguilar unconscious before leaving him in a parking lot.
