Detectives have released surveillance video that they hope will help track down at least two people involved in a shooting on the Bethune-Cookman University campus Monday evening.
Three students were wounded in the gunfire around 7 p.m.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — On Tuesday, BCU president Edison O. Jackson stressed to students that they must always find other ways to settle their differences, saying guns do not belong on the campus.
Surveillance video released by the Daytona Beach Police Department shows the campus of busy with students Monday evening. In the video a black SUV is seen turning around in a parking lot on Lincoln Street. A man is seen stepping from the vehicle.
According to police, the initial shots were fired out of the camera's sight, but in the video the man near the SUV is seen firing several shots.
Those involved in the shooting then fled.
None of the three students hit by the bullets suffered serious injury.
"It was quite scary to hear about it and I was happy I left campus just before that," student Patricia Trevisan said.
Campus security took two people into custody but they were later released with no charges.
University officials say they're now working with police to track the gunmen down.
"We want to make sure that these people are apprehended, that the shooter is apprehended and that our campus continues to remain safe for everyone," said Michelle Thompson of BCU.
Police identified the three students grazed by bullets as Juanye Jones, Keshaun Reeves, and Dante Ridford.
For now, other students said they feel safe, but are concerned the shooters have not been found.
"A little bit, but you know. We've got campus security, police, everybody, all that stuff. Everything should be alright" student Brandon Jordan said.
