Police: I-Drive hotel employee used skimming device to steal credit card info

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Dozens of people thought they were just paying for a night at an Orange County hotel, but ended up with their credit card numbers stolen and thousands of dollars in charges added to their accounts.

After numerous complaints from guests at the Monumental Movieland Hotel on International Drive, police launched an investigation and learned Luis Eusebio-Ponce, 23, was using a skimming device to steal credit card information from guests.

“It worries me. I don’t have a lot of money for people to be stealing,” said hotel guest Sara Kelley.

Channel 9’s Jeff Deal confronted Eusebio-Ponce about the allegations but he denied stealing the information, even though he admitted the crime to police.

Police said he admitted stealing more than 100 credit card numbers, but pointed blame at his barber, who works at a shop on Curry Ford Road.

He identified the barber only as ‘Elvin,’ and told police Elvin gave him the skimmer, paid him for the stolen numbers, and he believes Elvin cloned the cards and sold them.

The barber has not been charged with a crime and hasn’t been named a suspect.

Police said the case is still under investigation.
