WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — Winter Garden police released six 911 calls of the night a gunman walked into an Orange County gym and killed its owner.
Police said a black male wearing a hat and sunglasses walked in Monday night, passed several members of the gym and shot and killed CrossFit Mosaic owner Richard Millsap, 33, during a class.
Police released a sketch of the shooter two days ago, but witnesses from the class gave further details that may help identify him.
"I saw him walk in and I thought, 'Who is that weird guy?'" Caller 3 said.
"He had a hat. He had some glasses on. He had a plaid-like striped shirt and he had on jeans with some Nikes," Caller 1 said.
"He was short, he was really short," Caller 2 said.
Police haven't said what the motive may have been to shoot Millsap, but callers said he never saw it coming and said he was shot in the back of the head.
"I was about to tell him to turn around but I didn't know who it was," Caller 2 said.
Police said the man then left the Carter Road business, entered a vehicle of an unknown make and fled the area. They said the shooter did not appear to be the driver.
What could be the most important piece of new information is the getaway car a nearby business owner saw leave, and the possible driver who helped the shooter get away.
"I heard a shot fired, when I came out my son said a guy (who) drove off in a blue Yukon just fired that shot," Caller 6 said. "A white guy."
Police said they believe the shooter targeted Millsap because he didn't appear to care about witnesses being present.
"We had one suspect enter. (He) had something on his head, wearing sunglasses. (He) shot the victim, and then left the building in a vehicle," said Lt. Scott Allen of the Winter Garden Police Department.
Winter Garden police said they're hoping information on Millsap's iPad will help lead them to his killer.
Police said Millsap was a church member and well-respected in the community.
"We normally wouldn't have a situation happen where the person's killed with so many witnesses available, so we have a lot of interviewing to do, a lot of work to catch up on," said Allen.
No video surveillance was found.
As a friend and fellow CrossFit gym owner, Jeremy Brassard told WFTV he's devastated over the news of Millsap being shot to death in front of his class.
"There's no way to understand it, you can't," Brassard said.
Millsap left behind a wife and two small children.
His pastor, who's been consoling the family, was one of the first people to receive a call after the shooting since some of his church members also worked out at Millsap's gym.
"When something happens in either of those worlds, we know fast," said the Rev. Renaut van der Reit.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Winter Garden Police Department or Crimeline to assist.
Channel 9 has been looking into Millsap's past and learned someone shot at Millsap in October. Millsap was able to describe the shooter's vehicle but the case was never solved.
Last year, Millsap told deputies he was the victim of a drive-by shooting during daylight hours after he left a basketball game.
Millsap was able to describe the shooter's vehicle but the case was never solved. He told deputies he didn't know of anyone who was after him and authorities couldn't find any witnesses who saw or heard the shooting.
Two years ago, Millsap was charged with felony battery over a fight at a downtown pizzeria in which he was accused of striking a patron, fighting with a security guard and threatening to get his gun.
Millsap pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor and completed community service and an anger management course.
