Police investigation triggers morning hold at Champion Elementary School

, Fla. — Champion Elementary School was placed on a hold Wednesday morning due to law enforcement activity in the area, according to Volusia County Schools.

A message from Principal Fabulich said the school was cooperating with law enforcement and the district security team as they worked to resolve the incident.

An update will be provided when the hold is lifted, the message said.

No additional details about the law enforcement activity have been released.

Law enforcement sources tell Channel 9 that the campus “hold” enacted by Volusia County Schools is due to law enforcement activity near the school but is unrelated to the students or staff.

Channel 9’s Demie Johnson is near Champion Elementary and has witnessed ICE agents, Volusia Sheriff’s Office deputies, and Daytona Beach police officers in the area.
