, Fla. — A hold at Champion Elementary School in Daytona Beach has been lifted after a federal operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies near the campus, police said.
Eyewitness News first alerted viewers about the hold in the WFTV app just before 10 a.m.
Police said a vehicle with four people inside fled nearby. It was not immediately clear why the vehicle fled.
One person was arrested, and one person remains outstanding, according to police.
Police said there is no threat to the community.
Officers are expected to remain at Champion Elementary School for the rest of the day.
School was not part of investigation
The hold was not related to the school, according to a Volusia County Schools spokesperson.
While at the scene, Channel 9 crews saw ICE agents, Daytona Beach police and Volusia County sheriff’s deputies around the campus and in the surrounding area.
A Volusia County Schools spokesperson confirmed the elementary school was not part of the investigation.
The school was placed on hold until the situation was resolved, the spokesperson said.
A hold means students and staff remain inside classrooms or buildings while instruction or other activities may continue, depending on the situation.
One parent told Channel 9 that seeing law enforcement around the school made her uneasy.
“Makes you uneasy, makes you very nervous,” parent Kristin Antignani said. “I’m from New York with the shootings and the bombings and you’re gonna make me cry. It makes you nervous. Being in Florida has been a very good experience. It changed our lives, but this makes me a little uneasy.”
