Police: Man's body found at Skydive DeLand

DeLAND, Fla. — A man's body was found Tuesday morning at Skydive DeLand, the city of DeLand said.

The death was reported shortly after 10 a.m. at the skydiving facility, which is at the DeLand Municipal Airport, city spokesman Chris Graham said.

"We can confirm the man was found wearing parachute equipment and it appeared to be partially deployed," Graham said. "The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation."

Investigators said it does not appear that the parachute malfunctioned.

Capotorto Vitantonio, 27, of DeLand, died in the jump.

Vitantonio's wife tried to stop her husband from jumping. She told employees at Skydive DeLand that he made a disturbing video where he said he was not going to pull the cord during the jump and that he was going to go somewhere wonderful.

Employees at Skydive Deland radioed the pilot to stop Vitantonion, but he had already jumped.

The death is being investigated by the DeLand Police Department and the Federal Aviation Administration.

No other details were given.
