Police: Woman scorned sets ex-boyfriend's clothes on fire in apartment

ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando apartment complex nearly went up in flames while residents slept because police said a scorned woman set her ex-boyfriend's clothes on fire.

Fortunately, a quick-thinking neighbor put out the fire at the Hope Village on Orange Center Boulevard.

Police said 36-year-old Gwen Frazier was arrested after she decided to take out her anger with her ex-boyfriend on his clothes. Frazier admitted to police that she burned them on her balcony Monday night in an apartment full of sleeping residents.

"I was awoken by a sharp noise. It was a bang, like glass had broken," said resident Rahshea Anderson.

When Anderson walked outside, he saw the second floor of his building full of flames.

Anderson used the entire fire extinguisher but the fire still wasn't out, so he had to grab some water.

"I had to go back and forth running with the water," said Anderson.

Anderson's fiancée, Ursula Chaney, told WFTV it could have been deadly for her disabled sister.

"It really would have been tragic, trying to get her up and out the way the fire was," said Chaney.

Some of the residents were sound asleep and didn't have any idea about the fire until Tuesday morning.

Neighbors told WFTV the suspect was actually home with her child when this happened and the toddler even got close to the flames.

No one was hurt in the fire.

Frazier remains in jail. WFTV contacted the Department of Children and Families to find out who will have custody of her child, but has not heard back.
