MAITLAND, Fla. — Some parents in Maitland contacted Channel 9 after receiving a disturbing warning about a sex offender who was spotted lurking around two local schools.
The incident happened in January, but Jermetras Watson is already out of the Orange County Jail. He's been behind bars twice for alleged inappropriate contact with minors.
According to investigators, a teacher at Maitland Montessori School saw Watson watching kids on the school's playground and called police.
The 38-year-old is also accused of staring into classrooms at the Park Maitland School a few miles away. One witness told police they saw Watson touching his groin area as he was watching children.
He was charged with voyeurism and trespassing, charges that WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer described as minor.
"Voyeourism is a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by one year in jail and trespassing is a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to sixty days in jail," Sheaffer said. "They don't have a lot to work with as far as denying this defendant bond at this juncture."
After his arrest, Watson fulfilled his $10,100 bond and left the Orange County Jail.
"It's gonna take more abhorrent behavior on his part for the state to be able to argue we need to put this guy away," Sheaffer said.
Officials at the schools wouldn't do an interview with Eyewitness News, but said their teachers did everything right and Watson did not make it on campus.
