Polk County student charged with texting bomb threats

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — A Polk County student has been arrested and faces a number of charges related to texted bomb threats and texted threats to a high school teacher.

Auburndale police said a text message reporting a bomb at Auburndale High School was sent to Heartland Crime Stoppers in October.

Police said a short time later, a text from the same number reported a bomb at the Lake Myrtle Soccer Complex.

According to police, Tew lives close to both facilities and was questioned about the threats.

Police said a search warrant was obtained for Tew's cellphone and an examination provided evidence linking his phone to the bomb threats and to threatening texts sent to a teacher at the school.

Tew was arrested at Auburndale High School Wednesday.

Police said he admitted to the accusations while in police custody.

Police said Tew is charged with three counts of false report of a bomb, a second-degree felony; tampering with a witness, a first-degree felony; illegal use of device to intercept communications, a third-degree felony; stalking and harassing phone calls, both misdemeanors.
