OCALA — A Marion County woman said a sinkhole forced her out of her home and now the American Red Cross is putting her up in a hotel.
Crews were at the Ocala home Monday trying to determine if the 4- to 5-foot hole is truly a sinkhole.
Meanwhile, deputies have warned the woman to leave just to be safe.
From the front, the house looks like the others on the block, but in the backyard there's a major concern.
"It's kind of sad to think she's been in this house for a number years and she doesn't know if she can come home," said the resident's friend Linda Bertolami.
Bertolami said her friend, who is 67, recently got out of the hospital and wasn't even home for a day before deputies suggested she leave because it might not be safe.
"She's dealing with a lot and only got home a couple of hours when police was called," Bertolami said.
The hole is about 5 feet deep and it started as a small opening about a year ago.
There has been no confirmation as to whether it is actually is a sinkhole, but neighbors are very concerned.
"As the rains got heavier and heavier, it has washed more down the hill and has created nothing under the corner of her foundation here," Bertolami said.
