Problems plague Casselberry road project

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9 Eyewitness News has uncovered a major problem with a road project in Seminole County.

Last year, Channel 9 showed how work on North Winter Park Drive in Casselberry was delayed because of problems.

Now Channel 9 has been told that the road had to be ripped up for a second time to fix some pipes.

For Casselberry residents North Winter Park Drive is their version of "the Big Dig." It's a $2.2 million project that just won't go away.

"They are constantly digging it up," said one area resident.

Last year construction was behind schedule because of utility work. Then the city sent the construction company a letter ordering the contractor to stop work because the site was allegedly too dangerous.

Now there is a new problem. The city says the big problem is underneath the road. They said the utilities are not matching up properly, which could cause the water lines to leak in the future.

City officials are trying to be patient while their staff and lawyers deal with the project and the contractor

"I think it's fair to say that the interest of the city and their interests have not always been in aligned, but at this point they are working, they are stepping up to get the repairs made and we are hoping to get this finished," said Randy Newlon of the city of Casselberry.

Casselberry leaders said the changes will not cost any extra money.

Channel 9 reached out to the contractor for comment but has not had a response

There's no word on when the work will be finished.
