ORLANDO, Fla. — If you have plans to go swimming this Memorial Day, here are some tips to keep your family safe.
The American Red Cross says adults should pay close attention to children when they are swimming, and try to avoid distractions, like cell phones.
It also says you should teach children to always ask before going near any body of water.
The red cross recommends having children and inexperienced swimmers wear life jackets.
And take specific precautions depending on what you’re doing.
If you have a pool, put a fence around it.
If you are at the beach, swim near a lifeguard.
