Rep. Darren Soto wins reelection in U.S. House District 9

U.S. Rep. Darren Soto won reelection Tuesday evening, defeating Republican candidate Bill Olson.

The incumbent Democrat was reelected to represent Florida’s 9th Congressional District, which includes all of Osceola County and parts of Orange and Polk counties.

Soto was first elected in 2016 and reelected in 2018. He is the first Floridian of Puerto Rican descent to serve in Congress.

Before that, he served in the Florida Legislature for a decade.

In Soto’s first term in Congress, he passed the most laws of any freshmen member of the House.

In his second term, Soto said he “established himself as a strong advocate for the environment, hurricane relief, emerging technologies and the fight to protect the health and safety of his constituents.”
