Sandbags available across Central Florida in preparation for tropical depression 9

CENTRAL FLORIDA — Several counties and cities across Central Florida are giving away sandbags to help residents prepare for any effects of tropical depression 9.

LAKE COUNTY: Sandbags are available at four fire stations. Fire station 10, 14, 53 and 110 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents must bring their own shovels and can have up to 20 sandbags.

LAKE MARY: Residents can pick up sandbags at 235 Rinehart Road until Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring your own shovel.

LONGWOOD: People can pick up sandbags through Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Public Works Facility at 907 East State Road 434, Longwood. Residents can fill up 10 bags, bring your own shovel.

OCALA: The city of Ocala Municipal Government will give away sandbags Tuesday, Aug. 30 and Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the corner of 8th Avenue and 14th Street and also at the corner of State Road 40 and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. just east of the Hampton Center.

Sandbags are free, the limit is 10 bags per resident.

ORLANDO: People can pick up sandbags Tuesday until 2 p.m and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City of Orlando Streets and Stormwater Division at 1010 Woods Avenue in Orlando.

Residents must show proof of residence and will receive six bags per address.

SEMINOLE COUNTY: Residents can pick up sandbags from Tuesday through Friday at 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., next to Fire Station 35, 4170 North U.S. Highway 17-92 in Sanford. Residents must bring their own shovels.
