SANFORD, Fla. — Saturday marks 10 years since Trayvon Marin was killed in Sanford.
It happened on Feb. 26, 2012, when Martin was visiting his father in a gated community in the city.
Martin was shot by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, who was ultimately acquitted after claiming he fired in self-defense.
The shooting marked the beginning of the Black Lives Matter movement.
The city of Sanford is commissioning a permanent display to remember Martin and the peaceful rallies and protests that happened after his death.
