ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Earlier this week, SeaWorld Orlando welcomed a male beluga whale named Naluark. That is pronounced, (nah-LOO-ark), and is an Inuit word meaning "whitened skin." The whale was born in 1986 and before Orlando, he was at Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut.
SeaWorld Orlando said in a statement that the facility works closely with other aquariums to manage the genetic diversity of beluga whales and monitor its species and breeding.
SeaWorld said from time to time the animals are moved between facilities to help with those goals.
Naluark weighs 2,000 pounds and measures 14 feet long.
Once Naluark gets settled in at SeaWorld, he'll join another beluga whale, a 17-year-old female named Whisper.
