Seminole Co. man accused of killing baby indicted on murder charges

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — The Seminole County grand jury issued a first-degree felony murder indictment Thursday against a man accused of abusing and killing his 11-week-old baby.

The grand jury indicted Joshua Raymond Stuart, 26, in the July 18 death of his son, Eli Raymond Stuart, as well as on charges of aggravated child abuse, said assistant state attorney Stacey Salmons.

Paramedics were called to the child's home in Longwood on July 11 because Stuart said the baby had stopped breathing. The baby died a week later at Arnold Palmer Hospital.

The death was ruled a homicide because of trauma to the baby's head and neck, according to the medical examiner's report.

Stuart was arrested July 12 on aggravated child abuse charges by the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

He has been in the Seminole County Jail since then.

The grand jury heard testimony from three Sheriff's Office investigators and the medical examiner before returning with the indictment, Salmons said.
