Seminole County accountant accused of stealing more than $100K from child abuse nonprofit

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — An accountant who worked for a Seminole County nonprofit group that battles child abuse and helps victims is accused of stealing more than $100,000 from it.

Carrie Wagner, 61, worked for Kids House of Seminole in Sanford, and is accused of using the money for gambling at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa.

Over a year and a half, investigators say she took nearly $130,000. She is currently in jail on 58 criminal counts including fraud and forgery.

Investigators believe she wrote 27 checks from Kids House accounts to herself over a year and a half then gambled with the money.

As part of a statement, the CEO for Kids House of Seminole said, “These funds are critical to our life-saving work, and we are committed to a successful resolution.”

Wagner’s bond is set at $145,000.
