‘Oh, bother’: Winter Springs family searches for Eeyore, their runaway 40-pound tortoise

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — A family in Winter Springs is asking for help to find their runaway pet.

The family is searching for Eeyore, not the donkey, but a 4-year-old land tortoise.

They have no idea where she could have gone, and don’t live near any hundred-acre woods.

“I treat her kind of like, you know, any of the kids,” said Heather Bigham. “I’ve had her since she was a baby. Just a little under the size of my palm.”

Eeyore weighs in at 40 pounds and has been missing since Tuesday.

Bigham has been searching around her home in Winter Springs and hanging up flyers.

“Our side gate got opened, we don’t know how, and she wandered down the driveway,” Bigham said.

In the hour after she got out of the fence, Eeyore traveled a half mile down the street.

She was spotted by a family who filmed her but didn’t know at the time she was a missing pet.

“You would think a tortoise is slow, but she’s actually quicker than you think she should be,” Bigham said.

Bigham said Eeyore is friendly and likes to burrow under bushes and sand.

Bigham is hoping someone will find Eeyore and said she’s leaving the gate open in case Eeyore wanders home from her adventure.
