Seminole County man accused of under-reporting income to collect state benefits

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Seminole County man is accused of lying to receive thousands of dollars in state benefits.

Investigators say Kurtus Hayes underreported his family’s income to collect food stamps and Medicaid benefits illegally for more than a year and a half.

Hayes was arrested and released on bond this week.

State investigators said Hayes lied about his and his wife’s income to the Department of Children and Families.

According to court documents, Hayes collected more than $11,000 in food stamps and Medicaid benefits. Investigators said the scheme went on from December 2018 through July 2020.

He is set to be arraigned next month.
