Toxicology report lands man accused of killing 9-year-old in drunken-driving crash in jail, police say

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — The man accused of killing a 9-year-old girl in a drunk-driving crash is back in jail after evidence came through nine months later that allowed the judge to assign bonds to his charges, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Toxicology reports show Ulises Mora, 41, was over the legal limit at the time of the crash and speeding up a hill on Montgomery Road when he hit a car turning left onto Jamestown Boulevard that was carrying Keilani and her family last March.

“Now the house is just really quiet without her and very depressing,” her mother Vanessa said. “And the holidays were the worst.”

Vanessa said when Mora identified himself as the driver of the car and police sat him next to Keilani’s body, he said she was a doll.

Mora had only been given a bond for one charge back in May, but on Monday morning he had a bond assigned for five-other DUI-related charges.

Vanessa said she watched Mora walk into the Seminole County Jail after he surrendered his passport.

“My (other) daughter was the one who said, ‘Not even an I’m sorry to us?’ and she was only 9 years old,” Vanessa said. “And (Mora) just hid behind his wife and just went inside.”

Mora’s attorney said he was remorseful when he was first arrested in May, but the girl’s mother said he said nothing of the sort.

Vanessa said, with Mora behind bars, the family is getting closer to justice.

“I cried, I burst out into tears,” she said. “I felt, finally, justice for Keilani and I was just so happy.”

Mora remains in jail on a $31,500 bond. His next hearing has not yet been scheduled.
