Sex offender arrested in connection to Poinciana bank robbery

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A registered sex offender was arrested for his alleged involvement in a bank robbery.

Jacques Merlin was charged with robbery and grand theft.

Osceola County deputies responded to the Bank of America on South Doverplum Avenue in Poinciana about 2:30 p.m. Friday.

A bank clerk told deputies that the robber demanded money at gunpoint and fled in a vehicle.

Deputies later found the car at Merlin’s home on Trophy Lane.

They said he did not cooperate with the investigation, but based on evidence and witness statements, they were able to arrest him.

Deputies determined Merlin did not have a weapon and no one else was involved in the robbery.
