Skydiver injured during hard landing in DeLand

DELAND, Fla. — A 36-year-old man was injured Sunday morning while skydiving in DeLand, a city official said.

The man, who wasn’t publicly identified, suffered a compound fracture to one of his legs when he hit the ground, city spokesman Chris Graham said.

The incident happened at about 11:30 a.m. near Shapiro Drive and Lexington Avenue, Graham said.

A Volusia County Sheriff’s Office helicopter flew the man to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment.

No other details were given.
