Frost surpassed a large group of Democratic candidates to win nearly 35% of the votes in District 10 Tuesday night.

Frost beat two former lawmakers in the primary, a good start for a historically Democratic district.

Experts said whoever wins next will have to really win over those not affiliated with a party.

“Just because the district favors one party, that doesn’t always mean it’s the way it works,” University of Central Professor Aubery Jewett said. “Sometimes you have upsets.”

Data from the Orange County Supervisor of Elections shows out of 445,000 voters, 203,000 are registered Democrats. While there are just under 100,000 registered Republicans, about 134,000 have no party affiliation.

Frost, 25, and Wimbish, 72, disagree on just about every policy. Frost has activism experience with ACLU and March For Our Lives, but no college degree. Most recently, he worked for Uber.

Wimbish is an Army veteran and a teacher with two masters degrees.
