ORANGE COUNTY, Fla.,None — Downed power lines caused a shed to catch fire in east Orange county on Saturday.
Residents told WFTV the downed power lines sparked the fire just after they called 911 to report it. The incident happened in a neighborhood near Colonial Drive and Dean Road in east Orange County.
By the time emergency crews got to the scene, an overgrown tree had caught fire. That fire quickly spread to a shed at a home nearby.
“I'm hysterical I have five dogs inside the house and they can't put out the fire because it's electrical wire, and they shed's burning with all the stuff inside,” said Sandy Weyer, the owner of the shed.
Progress Energy crews responded to the neighborhood Saturday night and were working to restore power to several customers in the area.
Firefighters were able to quickly put out the flames. Fire officials said they were called to several similar weather related calls on Saturday.
Residents in the area told WFTV they've called Progress Energy to cut down the overgrown trees, and they were afraid something like this would happen.
“Everytime there's a storm or wind, it's like what's going to happen now,” one resident said.
