SANFORD, Fla.,None — A Seminole County middle school teacher is facing possible suspension after she allegedly spit water on her misbehaving students in December.
Students claim that Millennium Middle School science teacher Wendy Elkes got so frustrated that she spit water on them. Officials say the incident happened when the students were being unruly and misbehaving in class.
“That's disrespectful. You would not want someone to treat you like that, why would you spit on students?” said student Erica Zamarripa.
“You should handle it in a professional manner and she kind of deserves what is being taken,” said student Madison Schiefelbein.
School district superintendent Bill Vogel says he has recommended that Elkes be suspended without pay for two days.
Vogel told WFTV the district reviews each disciplinary situation involving teachers on an individual basis.
Some students who spoke to WFTV felt that Elkes should get a harsher punishment.
“If a student spit on a teacher then the student would get in trouble or expelled,” said Zamarripa.
The Seminole County School Board will consider the suspension at a meeting Tuesday night.
Officials say Elkes has been with the school district for 12 years.
