WINTER PARK, Fla. — A teenager has been arrested in the killing of a Winter Park man whose family previously described him as a positive influence on local youth.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that Jamari Calloway, 16, was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the April shooting death of Robert Shealey Jr., 25.
The investigation began on April 17 when deputies responded to the 2200 block of Weston Point Drive for reports of a shooting. Deputies found two men in their 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a hospital, where Shealey died. The second victim survived and was reported to be in stable condition.
In the days following the shooting, Shealey’s family held a news conference and pleaded for justice.
“We all just hurt. We are devastated,” family friend and pastor Jake Stovall said at the time.
Shealey’s father, Robert Shealey Sr., described his son as a peacemaker who worked with young people and tried to steer them away from violence and trouble.
“He told me, ‘Dad, if I can get just one or two and let them know this thing out here in the streets ain’t about it,’” Shealey Sr. recalled during the news conference.
Family members said Shealey was dedicated to helping others and believed he was trying to make a positive difference in the community.
The sheriff’s office has not released additional details about Calloway’s arrest. The investigation remains ongoing.
