Teen charged with causing 23 crashes

BRADENTON, Fla. — Authorities say a 16-year-old southwest Florida boy stole a truck and caused 23 crashes as deputies chased him.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports that the boy -- a runaway from Arcadia -- was riding his bike through Bradenton Tuesday morning when he spotted a red Ford F350 truck that had just been dropped off at a tint shop. He hopped in the driver's seat and drove away.

Deputies eventually located the truck and began a pursuit. The truck was involved in multiple collisions before coming to a stop on the Cortez Bridge, which leads to Bradenton Beach. No injuries were reported.

The boy was arrested and charged with grand theft auto, reckless driving, fleeing to elude and other counts.

The bridge remained closed Tuesday until around 2 p.m.
