Theme parks take closer look at use of selfie sticks

ORLANDO, Fla. — Some of the popular Orlando theme parks are taking a closer look at whether selfie sticks should be allowed.

The picture-taking tool, which consists of an extending stick that holds a cellphone, has been growing in popularity among social media users.

"They're very popular, especially for kids our age," one tourist said.

But citing safety concerns about their length, the selfie sticks have been banned at several music festivals and museums across the country.

"It's kind of annoying when people are in front of you and just randomly stop in front of you," another visitor said.

At most of the Orlando theme parks, selfie sticks are not allowed on any rides. Selfie sticks that are taken from guests are returned when they get off the rides, officials said.

"I think they're ridiculous, but there's no reason they should be banned," a park guest said.
