MELBOURNE, Fla. — Investigators said some thieves in Brevard County used bricks to smash their way into two car dealerships over the weekend and then went joyriding in the stolen cars.
Security cameras were rolling the entire time of the thefts, showing the men vandalizing dealerships on West New Haven Avenue and then driving off in stolen vehicles.
At least seven teens wearing dark clothing can be seen casing The Car Guys auto lot in Melbourne.
The suspects first damaged the dealership, but surveillance cameras show them coming back three hours later.
That's when investigators said the suspects tried car key after car key and drove off in a convoy with a total of six vehicles.
"They lined them up and left, all together," said co-owner Lindsay Davidson.
By Monday afternoon, investigators had recovered most of the cars, but they're too damaged to sell, the owner said.
"The Acura is totaled, completely totaled," said Davidson. "The windshield, the sunroof; demolished."
About a half-mile away, Auto Discount Sales was also broken into.
"We haven't even fully cleaned it up yet," said Bob Rivera, of Auto Discount Sales.
"Fortunately, we were very lucky," Rivera said.
