Thousands pack Cranes Roost Park for annual Red, Hot and Boom

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Storms didn’t stop more than 150,000 people from filling Cranes Roost Park in Altamonte Springs on Friday for the annual July Fourth celebration.

Red, Hot and Boom went off without a hitch despite people getting a good soaking earlier in the evening.

“We were under a tent and the whole thing was about to blow over,” said Sydney Cormia.

When skies cleared, the thousands of people who filed into the park were ready to get the holiday weekend started.

“Me and my friend came to see Vance Joy and Andy Grammer. They’re so amazing,” said Mikayla Lamondie of DeLand.

More than 60 food vendors added to the experience as Matt Cormia and his family showed up for their first Independence Day celebration.

“We wanted to have some family fun, have some nice dinner and a couple drinks. The weather had a different idea for us,” he said.

But with a host of up-and-coming acts on the concert roster, Matt Cormia lost the vote to leave, quickly overruled by his teenagers.

“I really wanted to see Vance Joy and Shaggy and the fireworks,” said Kate Cormia.

That long-anticipated part of the night completed what’s become a tradition for many central Floridians.

“The experience is great and it has been year after year. It just gets better,” said Orlando resident Anita Capetillo.

Also included in the fireworks display was a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Seminole State.
