Parents upset after high school teacher allegedly found with pot, pills on campus

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A high school social studies teacher is off the job after drugs and pills were allegedly found on her while parked at Timber Creek High School.

Investigators said social studies teacher and cheerleading coach Megan Urban was pulled over at the school Monday.

A deputy said he followed Urban as she drove erratically and then turned into the high school parking lot.

The deputy said Urban cut in front of a long line of cars waiting to turn left and nearly jumped the curb.

He said that's when he pulled Urban over on school grounds.

According to the deputy, when he approached her car, he could smell a strong odor of marijuana.

He also noted in the report that there was an unlabeled pill bottle with four red pills inside the car.

Urban wasn't arrested; instead a school administrator came and took her away. She wasn’t given a field sobriety test.

Parents who spoke with Channel 9 about the incident were upset school leaders failed to notify them about the teacher being found on campus allegedly with marijuana and pills.

"They're supposed to tell us. They don't tell us anything," said parent Evelyn Perales. “I have a daughter. I don’t want something like that to happen with my daughter.”

"I think we should know something about it, yes," said another parent, Roman Law. “I’m a little surprised. I thought it was a good school.”

Urban has been relieved of her duties with pay while Orange County Public Schools investigates the incident.

The Sheriff's Office forwarded the case to the state attorney for possible charges.
