Titusville police officers exchange gunfire with man, police say

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Titusville police fired back at a man who officers say fired a handgun at them early Sunday.

Harland Johnson, 22 of Titusville, was arrested following the exchange of gunfire and is facing charges of firing a firearm from a vehicle, carrying a concealed firearm, tampering with evidence, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The incident occurred at the apartments on Mayfair Way around 5 a.m., police said.

Police said the “officers briefly exchanged gunfire with the suspect who discharged his handgun.”

Police quickly took Johnson into custody. He was booked into the Brevard County jail without bail.

As part of department policy, the officers involved are currently the subject of an internal affairs investigation into the incident.

Police cited the investigation as the reason why they will release no more details about the case.
