Tricks to avoid phantom energy usage this Halloween

ORLANDO, Fla. — Your spooky decorations could come back to haunt you with “phantom” energy charges.

FPL is offering tricks to help save energy this Halloween.

The first tip is to plug Halloween décor like strobe lights and inflatables into a power strip making it easy to turn off multiple devices quickly.

You can also invest in timers to help you save on usage.

When it comes to laundry, FPL recommends washing your costumes in cold water if possible, as using hot water costs eighty cents more per load.

You can also avoid phantom energy use by unplugging all devices you aren’t currently using such as air fryers, laptops and chargers. FPL said those items still use energy even when off but plugged in.
