UCF basketball coach gets 3-game suspension

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla.,None — WFTV asked University of Central Florida's basketball coach about his three-game suspension due to the athletics scandal, involving NCAA violations.  However, Donnie Jones wasn't very forthcoming.

Jones was pressed on questions regarding alleged recruiting violations, but commenting would be against the rules of the NCAA investigation.

On Wednesday, UCF President John Hitt announced the resignation of Athletic Director Keith Tribble and assistant football coach David Kelly, along with a three-game suspension for Jones.

The NCAA found numerous violations committed by the UCF athletic program, including payment of thousands of dollars to football and basketball recruits, and one current player.

When asked about the suspension and alleged recruiting violations, Jones said, "These are the allegations. We still have time; we have 90 days, as you mentioned, to respond and we will."

The new interim Athletic Director Admiral Al Harms was given the job of spending the 90 days researching the alleged violations.

"So we've got some homework to do and will study that and study it thoroughly. Part of that will be to make sure we're absolutely certain we have the programs and policies and people in place to make sure this doesn't happen again," said Al Harms.

Al Harms received his title from his former Navy service and previously served as interim Director of Athletics at UCF in 2006.

Harms said his goal is to build a "culture of compliance" for the program while the school begins its national search for a new athletics director.
