USTA breaks ground on new tennis facility in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — Officials on Wednesday broke ground in Orlando on the United States Tennis Association National Campus facility, which will have more than 100 courts when it is completed next year.

The 63-acre campus will house the USTA's Community Tennis and Player Development divisions and will have lodging for players.

Athletes and coaches from around the country are expected to come to the facility for training. It will also be open to the public and will be home for the University of Central Florida's men's and women's varsity teams.

It is open to the public and also will be home for the University of Central Florida's men and women's varsity teams.

"This is amazing. We're going to call it our USTA National Campus, because it's going to house so many different sectors of the organization," said CEO Katrina Adams. "We're going to have college dual matches and then we're going to have player development homes here as well, so we'll be developing our players from the bottom up."

The facility is being built in the Lake Nona area of Orlando.

"Major game changer when we talk about sports recreation and creating a new identity for ourselves as well," said Mayor Teresa Jacobs.
