SANFORD, Fla. — Sanford parents can now take their children to a new playground after several organizations teamed up to build it in just six hours.
More than 200 volunteers from Disney, Community Based Care of Central Florida, KaBOOM! and Public Allies Central Florida built the playground Saturday at McKibbin Park on West 25th Street.
KaBOOM! Is a non-profit that helps communities design and build play areas for children.
The new playground is part of Disney’s Magic Healthy Living initiative, which is meant to inspire children to lead healthy lifestyles.
Volunteers added new benches, play equipment and decorated the new space.
“It’s going to give them a place to build their muscles, expand their minds. There’s this opportunity for kids to come out here and have a safe place to play,” said the project’s manager, Evan Mynatt.
The design was based on children's drawings created at a special event from Magic Healthy Living in August.
Children will be allowed to play at the park starting Tuesday.
