ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida and U.S. Hunger are partnering this Saturday, Aug. 29, to host a meal-packing project in Orlando to assemble 100,000 meals for local families.
The effort marks the final push in U.S. Hunger’s initiative to distribute 1 million meals across Central Florida.
The event will take place at the Levy-Hughes Clubhouse, located at 712 W. Amelia St. in Orlando.
Hundreds of volunteers, including local teenagers and high school students earning community service hours, will package jambalaya meals sponsored by Sara Lee.
Participants ages 13 and older will work along active assembly lines to measure, package and box the jambalaya meals for community distribution. Leadership attending the event includes Jamie Merrill, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida and CEO Rick Whitted of U.S. Hunger.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida has operated for more than 80 years. The organization serves more than 16,000 young people across 39 club locations in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and Brevard counties.
U.S. Hunger is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on addressing food insecurity by engaging volunteers and expanding access to nutritious meals. The group has activated more than 1 million volunteers to distribute more than 200 million meals globally.
Media availability for the event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. during the first shift on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Levy-Hughes Clubhouse.
