DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Volusia County leaders are considering banning driving on some sections of the area's hard-packed beaches.
Leaders are expected to vote on beach driving this week. They’ll consider a proposal on Thursday that would ban cars from beached about 1,300 feet behind two new beach developments.
Supporters of the plan say it would spur economic develop and help invigorate the beach front. Opponents say the ban is one step toward eroding a century-old tradition of driving on area beaches.
