Appointments for Volusia County COVID-19 vaccination event fully booked

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Appointments for the next COVID-19 vaccination event in Volusia County booked up within 25 minutes on Wednesday.

The county said the appointments for people aged 65 and older opened at 9 a.m. and were full by 9:25 a.m. Those who were able to make an appointment will receive the first dose of the Moderna vaccine at the Volusia County Fairgrounds.

The available appointment times were for Thursday and Friday, Jan. 21 and 22, and Monday Jan. 25.

County officials said no less than 1,200 appointments will be available each day.

Previous vaccination events in the county saw senior residents camping out overnight to try to receive their first shot.

County Chair Jeff Brower said the county is working to make the registration process easier.

He said the last event had 200,000 clicks in just minutes.

Meanwhile, Flagler County Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord said the county is still waiting to see when it may get more doses of the vaccine.

Flagler did a thousand doses to people 65 and older from Jan. 5 through Jan. 11.

Lord said he’s hopeful the county’s department of health may receive more of the vaccine Tuesday, but nothing has been finalized yet.
