Central Florida man shot after confronting ex-girlfriend, new boyfriend

DELAND, Fla. — The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left one person fighting for his life.

Deputies said the shooting was reported just before 10 p.m. Saturday on the 400 block of South Blue Lake Avenue in Deland.

Following the report, deputies learned that a person with a gunshot wound showed up at a residence about 1 ½ miles away on South Kentucky Avenue.

According to a release, deputies determined that the two calls were related.

The resident who lives on Blue Lake Avenue told deputies that her ex-boyfriend, a 50-year-old DeLand man, showed up uninvited, entered the house and confronted her and her current boyfriend.

The ex-boyfriend left but later returned to confront the couple.

During a physical confrontation, the ex-boyfriend armed himself with a brick, deputies said.

Deputies said the current boyfriend grabbed a handgun and shot the ex-boyfriend.

After being shot, the ex-boyfriend drove himself to South Kentucky Avenue. He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.

Deputies said no charges have been filed at this time.

This is an ongoing investigation.
