Daytona Beach police need help to ID woman hit and killed by van while crossing US 1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Police in Daytona Beach are trying to identify a woman who was killed while crossing U.S. 1 on Thursday night.

Officers said the woman was struck by a van at around 8:44 p.m. while walking across U.S. 1 and South Ridgewood Avenue.

When police arrived, they found the woman lying in the road where she was pronounced dead.

A 63-year-old Daytona Beach woman driving the blue 2003 Dodge Caravan that struck the victim remained on scene to speak to detectives, police said.

Investigators believe the driver was heading south on U.S. 1 when the victim stepped out in front of the van.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.

Officers said the victim has not been identified because officers did not find any identification on her and other methods of identifying her have not been successful.
