Kayaker found dead in Volusia County, officials say

DELTONA, Fla. — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is investigating after a man drowned while kayaking in Volusia County.

FWC officials said they received a call at 1:54 p.m. on Saturday about a kayaker who flipped their kayak and never surfaced.

According to FWC, the man was kayaking on Big Lake in Deltona.

FWC and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office responded for the initial search.

FWC officials told Channel 9 that a male, approximately 50 years old, was found deceased.

FWC is working to notify the victim’s family.
