VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Volusia County woman convicted in a deadly hit-and-run crash was denied her request to end her sentence early.

Rita Carter was arrested in 2011.

State troopers said she hit and killed Javi Remon-Sanzol and Allison Sellers while they were on their motorcycle on Interstate 4 in DeLand.
She was sentenced to 15 years probation in 2017, and has served five years so far.

The judge denied her request, but said that Carter’s probation could end halfway through its 15-year sentence depending on her behavior.
The family of the couple that was killed said they were happy with the judge’s decision.
