WATCH: Deputies break into car after Deltona man leaves newborn locked inside

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 31-year-old Deltona man is facing more than 10 charges after Volusia County deputies said he left a baby, just weeks old, in a running car.

The chase was on Tuesday afternoon after deputies said they watched a driver hit a school zone sign in a white Kia connected to a stolen vehicle investigation.

Video shows when a deputy saw the suspect, Lucien Suprice, park along Shafton Avenue and take off on foot while the engine was still running.

Minutes later, Suprice was in custody and told police his newborn son was in the front seat of the locked car.

Deputies were able to use a neighbor’s tools to get inside the car and rescue the baby.

Deputies said they recovered drugs on Suprice. He is facing more than 10 charges, including child neglect, leaving an unattended child in a car and fleeing.
